BT Synergy 5100 / 5500 Cordless Phone Review

Two new cordless phones from BT are the new BT Synery 5100 and also the BT Synergy 5500. The BT Synergy range has been running for a long time and the BT Synergy 5100 / 5500 are the direct replacements for the ageing 4100 and 4500 phones. The only difference between the 5100 and the 5500 is that the BT Synergy 5500 has a built in digital answering machine.

Very stylish in design the Synergy range has been a cordless phone that has been very popular in the domestic home market. However don't let this fool you into thinking it is a low quality phone as the it is has dect technology giving it a digital quality and high clarity and range.

BT Synergy Features Review

Both the BT Synergy 5100 and 5500 phones have features such as a 250 name  and nuber phone book so you can save all your friends and familes phone numbers. The build quality of the phones are excellent and they are a nice size so not too small making them easy to handle. The LCD display is also nice and bright and and the menu navigation keys straight forward as well.

It is also possible to purchase the BT Synergy 5100 and 5500 in a single, twin, trio or quad packs so you can have a handset in another room and save on cost as well. One of the major downsides though is that you can't get hold of the BT Synergy 5100 / 5500 additional handset so you do have to make this choice when you buy the phone. However this is the case with most of the Dect phones on the market today so it isn't uncommon.

Here is a list of the key features on the BT Synergy 5100 and 5500 handsets:

  • GAP compatible
  • 12 minutes recording time ( BT Synergy 5500 Only)
  • 250 name & number directory

Bluetooth Enabled Cordless Dect Phone - Buying Guide Help

There are many cordless DECT phones that have the ability to plug in a wired headset into a socket on the phone. For example one of the most popular phones with a headset socket is the BT Diverse 6210 cordless phone. As the headset socket is a 2.5mm jack you can plug in something like the Plantronics M175 headset. However on the move the cable between the cordless telephone and the headset can become a nuisance.

With Bluetooth capability the Siemens Gigaset SL565 has the ability to work with wireless Bluetooth headsets solving this problem. It works in the same way as most modern mobile phones on the market today.

    Siemens Gigaset SL565 DECT Phone

    Siemens Gigaset SL565 Dect Phone

Bluetooth is the name for a type of wireless signal that allows electronic devices to communicate to each other. As the Siemens Gigaset SL565 Dect cordless phone has the ability to send out a Bluetooth signal, you can use this to register a wireless Bluetooth headset.

It is the cordless Siemens Gigaset SL565 handset that has the Bluetooth capability so the headset is paired to the handset you carry around. This means you can wear the Bluetooth headset whilst the handset is in your pocket on the move. Also so you don’t press any buttons by accident the Siemens Gigaset SL565 has a keylock.

As Bluetooth is a standard protocol you can use pretty much any Bluetooth headset you want with the Gigaset SL565. For example the Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth headset is a good choice, and with multi pairing capability you can use it with your normal mobile as well.

Long Range DECT Cordless Phone - Buying Guide Help

Long Range Dect Cordless Phone - Buying Guide Help

There are many different Dect cordless phones on the market and it is difficult to tell which phones have the longest range. Well to tell you the truth the majority of Dect phones don’t have a great deal of difference between them, because in the end they all use the same DECT technology and produce similar results.

When you are looking at which Dect cordless phone to buy you have to be realistic in what range you are going to get. Nearly all cordless phones offer a range of up to 300m, and it is this “up to” that is the important factor. It’s because most people are never going to use a Dect phone where there are walls, desks, and other electrical equipment that will reduce the range.

The rule of thumb with Dect phones that offer 300m is you’re probably going to get a range of around 50m indoors. Also what a lot of users forget is that half your range is in the opposite direction, so try and put your base station in a central location.

Of course there are always exceptions and some brands can be stronger than others. What Phone and Headsets has discovered is two Dect phones that produce results that are not the norm, and offer a much longer range.

    BT Elements Dect Cordless Phone

The BT Elements Dect cordless is a phone that is quiet unique as it has a stronger than normal range. BT actually advertise this phones as having a range of up to 1km which in reality isn’t going to happen in most environments. In truth the BT Elements is probably going to give you a range of around 100m in most office environments.

    BT Elements Cordless DECT Phone

    BT Elements Dect Phone

Also another benefit of the BT Elements Dect is that the base station that sends the signal to the handset is separate. This means you can actually locate the cordless base station in the best central location for range, not where you want the handset to sit.

Overall the BT Elements is an effective Dect cordless phone. Obviously results do depend upon your personal surroundings, but from our experience the results have been impressive.

BT Diverse Dect Cordless Phone & Repeater

As one of the longest running Dect ranges the BT Diverse has been around since the very first Dect phones started hitting the shelves. At the beginning they were expensive and were known for developing faults, however over the years BT have developed a very good phone.

What were trying to say is if you have had a problem with a BT Diverse phone in the past; don’t let it put you off as the latest model is excellent.

    BT Diverse DECT 6120 Phone

    BT Diverse 6210 Dect Phone

As a stand alone Dect phone the BT Diverse 6210 will give you a similar range to all the other good cordless models. The reason we class this phone as a long range Dect is because you can add a Dect Repeater.

    BT Diverse Repeater

    BT Diverse Repeater

The BT Diverse repeater works by picking up the wireless Dect signal sent out by the Diverse 6210, and then sending it on again for the handsets. Location is key and by placing the BT Diverse Repeater in the correct place you can nearly double your range.

Another feature of the BT Diverse phones is that you can put up to four repeaters in different locations for the same phone. These are to expand the range in each direction from the phone, not to expand the range already extended by a repeater.

The following BT Diverse phones are compatible with the BT Diverse range repeater:

    BT Diverse 6210
    BT Diverse 6250
    BT Diverse 6350
    BT Diverse 6410
