Camping Skiing & Snowboarding Two Way Radios Review

Whether you are going camping, Skiing, or walking using two way radios is a great way of staying in contact with other members of your group. As the only costs involved are the price of the two way radios it is a cheap and effective means of communicating. There is also no limit on the amount of two way radios you can use at the same time as you simply put them on the same channel and they will all communicate.

Many Skiing and camping locations can be remote making mobile phone reception very bad or non existent. However two way radios transmit between the radios being used and are not dependent on an external mobile provider such as O2, Vodaphone, or T-mobile. For this reason if you are skiing or snowboarding abroad the radios will still function.

The two way radios we will be reviewing to take camping and skiing all work on what is called the PMR446 frequency. It is a license free frequency that many countries in Europe allow the general public to use without having to pay for an expensive licence. As well as the UK PMR446 two way radios can be used in:

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Rep, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.

The Motorola T3 and Motorola T5 TLKR two way radios are very similar with the T5 having more channels to choose between and a slightly better range. However the main difference between the two sets of radios is that the T5 comes supplied with rechargeable batteries and charger, which will save a fortune on batteries.

Both the Motorola T3 and Motorola T5 TLKR two way radios are very small and compact so if you are Skiing or walking they will be very easy to carry. In fact as the T3 and T5 radios have a loop at the top you can wear these radios on a cord round the neck.

The Motorola T7 TLKR two way radios are an advanced version of the Motorola T3 and T5 versions. One of the biggest differences of the T7 radios is that instead of a built in antenna the antenna is the more traditional style sticking up from the top of the radios. This is what gives the T7 a superior range of up to 10km which is further than the T3 and T5. So when choosing which model to go for it really depends on whther you want the increased range or compactness.

All of the two way radios Phone and Headsets have recommended for Skiing and camping come supplied in twin packs. However if you do want an odd number just purchase the extra twin pack and it means you have one as a spare, and for the price that’s not so bad.
